In modern construction, External Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS), also known as External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS), have become a key technology for improving building energy efficiency and durability. One of the essential additives used in EIFS/ETICS formulations is Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP).
Redispersible polymer powder significantly enhances the performance of cement-based mortars used in insulation systems. It improves adhesion, flexibility, water resistance, and overall durability, making it a critical component in EIFS adhesives, base coats, and skim coats.
What is Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP)?
Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) is a spray-dried polymer emulsion that can redisperse in water to form a stable polymer dispersion. When added to dry mortar formulations, RDP forms a flexible polymer film after hydration and curing.
This film improves the bonding strength and mechanical properties of cementitious materials.
Common polymer bases include:
Vinyl Acetate Ethylene (VAE)
Vinyl Acetate Versatate (VA/VeoVa)
Acrylic polymers
Among these, VAE-based RDP is the most widely used in EIFS/ETICS applications.
